Chris Bottoms. CNM.
Chris’ path to midwifery started shortly after she earned her degree in English Literature from the University of Tennessee and returned from a trip to Guatemala 2001. She was unsure of what would come next in her life, but had taken an interest in women’s healthcare after receiving care at Lisa Ross Birth and Women’s Center for several years. One of the center’s Certified Nurse Midwives, Linda Cole, sent Chris several copies of Midwifery Today, and after that, she read “Spiritual Midwifery” by Ina May Gaskin and became convinced that midwifery was the perfect blend of using her mind, heart, and hands. She graduated from Emory University in 2007 with a master’s degree in nurse midwifery. From 2005-2008, she worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Gwinnett Medical Center, near Atlanta. In 2008 she began working at the Women’s Wellness and Maternity Center in Madisonville. And in 2012, she came full circle and back to home in Knoxville and began working at the Lisa Ross Birth and Women’s Center. She thrives on meeting women and their families, making connections, and being there to support them through life experiences, large and small, joyous and difficult. Outside of work, Chris enjoys getting outside with her little boys, husband and doggies to go hiking, running and to the park. She absolutely loves bumping into clients out-and-about on a greenway, at the grocery store, or at the farmer’s market.
