This in-depth, interactive childbirth education class covers late pregnancy wellness and self-care, coping techniques for labor, care and support options in the birth center, and postpartum care and support for mom and baby. The class includes a section specifically designed to help you know what to expect if you are planning a birth center birth and another on how to work together with the hospital team to make decisions about medical treatments and get the support you need if you have your baby at the hospital. Participants have opportunities to practice relaxation and active birthing techniques in the birth center environment. In this lesson, we will look at what to expect in the first two weeks after baby arrives, including what help mom may need and how her partner can help her begin a successful breastfeeding relationship. We will also focus on how to establish yourselves as a parenting team, while also maintaining a healthy relationship together through open lines of communication. Finally, we will consider ways to create healthy boundaries with well-intentioned family and friends so that everyone feels loved, needed, and secure.

Whether your baby is still an infant or already past the halfway mark, this class can be your one-stop-shop for everything you need to know for months 6-12. We will review the developmental milestones your child is likely to experience in the second half of his or her first year and what this means for baby proofing the house. We will also explore fun ways to interact with your baby and stimulate his or her senses through sensory play. You will learn ten of the most useful baby signs, how to practice the “baby led weaning” method to introducing solid foods, and some tips for dealing with teething and separation anxiety. Months 6-12 are some of the most fun in this parenting journey and this class is aimed at helping you and your baby get the most out of them.
